How to Set Up Netgear EAX18 WiFi Extender?

You can set up the EAX18 WiFi range extender using the Nighthawk app. However, before that you are supposed to perform Netgear extender reset before that. Once done, follow the instructions mentioned below to set up the device.

Download the Nighthawk app on your Android or iOS device.
Once done, ensure that your router is up and running and also note down its SSID and password.
Switch on your EAX18 range extender and let its LED go green.
Be sure that your phone is connected to the Netgear_EXT network.
Launch the Nighthawk app on your phone.
The app will now present you with some on-screen prompts that you need to follow in order to set up the Netgear EAX18 extender and connect it to the internet.

WPS Method for Netgear EAX18 Setup

You can also set up the range extender using the WPS method. The process is very easy. Just put the EAX18 extender in the same room as the router and press the WPS button on both devices one by one. Be sure that the router’s button is pressed within the 2 minutes of pressing the WPS button on Netgear EAX18 extender. Your devices will get connected automatically and the setup process will be completed.

How to Reset Netgear EAX18 Extender?

Press and hold the Reset button using a paper clip or another sharp object.

Steps to Update Netgear EAX18 Firmware

Open a web browser on a computer connected to your extender (Ethernet connection).
Log in to your extender using the default URL.
Windows based PC: use mywifiext.net
Mac PC, iOS, and Linux devices: mywifiext.local
On the login page, enter the Netgear EAX18 user name and password.
On the Status page, choose the Menu icon.
Click Firmware Update > Check Online.
In case, a new firmware is available, follow the on-screen prompts to update the firmware.

Note: You can also manually upload the firmware to your Netgear EAX18 WiFi range extender. For that, you need to download the firmware file from Netgear Download Center at netgear.com/support/download/ and upload the file on the Firmware Update page.

How to Change Admin Password of Netgear EAX18?

Although a user is advised to change the admin password during the Netgear EAX18 setup process, still there are chances that your extender is running on the default value “admin”. In that case, you are suggested to change it right away using the following instructions:

Log in to your Netgear extender using the appropriate login URL – mywifiext.net or mywifiext.local.
Go to Menu > Settings > Password.
On the Password Settings page, enter a new password in the field labeled “New Password”.
You should re-enter the password into the Verify Password field.
Select security questions and set answers.
Click Save.
