There are a lot of extender models that Netgear brand distributes worldwide. One of the extender models is Netgear EX7700 100NAS WiFi mesh extender. Here, we will provide full setup instructions to complete the Netgear EX7700 100NAS setup. There are different methods we will explain everything.
Netgear EX7700 100NAS Setup
Via WPS
Plug the extender in. Don’t plug it in a corner behind the couch or something. Power it on near your router just for the Netgear WiFi extender setup.
- Wait until the power LED stops blinking out and goes solid. It will take a minute.
- On the EX7700, hit the WPS button on the side. It’ll start blinking. Means the extender is searching for the tr.
- Now, run over to your router and press its WPS button. You’ve usually got like 2 minutes before the extender times out.
- Watch the lights. If it works, the extender’s “Router Link” LED goes solid white. If it turns amber or red, it’s basically telling you, “Bad signal.” Move it closer.
- Once it’s linked, the extender should start broadcasting your WiFi with “_EXT” tacked on the end of your SSID.
Connect a phone or laptop to that. Test it. If it feels sluggish, relocate the extender a bit and redo the WPS process.
Via Interface
Connect your computer to the Netgear EX7700 100NAS setup network. You’ll see a WiFi network pop up called something like NETGEAR_EXT. No password yet.
- Open a browser and type: mywifiext.net, or if that fails, the raw IP: 192.168.1.250
- You’re in the setup page. If it asks you to login, the default is usually admin / password unless you already set something before.
- From there, just follow the “New Extender Setup” wizard. It’ll scan your existing WiFi networks.
- Pick your main one (2.4GHz and 5GHz separately), enter your router’s password, and then it’ll ask you to name the extended networks.
- Don’t change the SSID names if you want seamless roaming just let it copy your main WiFi name.
- If you rename them (like adding “_EXT”), your devices will treat it as a totally separate network.
It’ll reboot after you hit apply. Takes a couple minutes. The LEDs will start blinking. When the power light goes solid and the WiFi lights are green, you’re good. Connect your phone or laptop to your “extended” WiFi and test it.
Via Nighthawk App
Open iOS App Store / Google Play — search for Nighthawk App. Same app they use for all their routers and extenders now. Logged in with my Netgear account.
- In the app, hit the “+” to add a new device. It actually picked up the EX7700 right away.
- If yours doesn’t show up, make sure your phone’s WiFi is on and close to the extender.
- App will ask for main WiFi network name, type the password, and it will link up. It can take maybe a minute to sync. The extender then rebooted itself.
- You can either make it broadcast the same SSID as your router or give it a new name like “HomeWiFi_EXT.”
- App shows a little signal strength meter, which will show its WiFi speed like upload and download speed.
Troubleshooting Tips
Placement Matters
If you stick it at the edge of your signal, it’s useless. Put it halfway between the router and the dead zone.
Stuck on “Connected but no internet”?
Usually, means it connected to your router but didn’t actually working right. Restart both devices. Router first, then the EX7700. If that doesn’t work, forget the network on your phone/laptop, reconnect, and make sure you’re on the extender’s SSID.
Firmware updates
Go to 192.168.1.250 (that’s the extender’s IP by default) and log in to mywifiext setup page. Check for updates manually. Netgear doesn’t always push them automatically. If you find an update, click Install.
Ethernet backhaul actually helps
The EX7700 supports Ethernet backhaul, and it’s better than relying on Wi-Fi backhaul. So, if the WiFi signals are lagging a bit, use the Ethernet cable for connection.
Reset the Extender
The tiny reset button is there at the back, when things get totally weird. You’ve got to hold it a full 10 seconds with a paperclip. After a proper reset, setup usually goes smoother the second time.
Conclusion
Hope, you have completed the Netgear EX7700 100NAS setup and is connected with it enjoying internet services on your internet devices. Make sure you have learned all troubleshooting tips and solutions to make the network error free.
